To Fitbit Or Not To Fitbit…

garmin, weight tracker, steps tracker, fitbit, jawbone,

For sometime now I have been contemplating getting a FitBit for myself.  And like anything that has to do with exercise, I think about why not to do it, more than I think about doing it!

There are so many questions I have been asking myself…  Do I really want to wear that thing on my wrist 24 hours a day?  By wearing that band on my wrist I feel like I’m announcing to the world… HEY WORLD, I’ve kinda let myself go and now I want to get healthy (I know most people won’t event notice it, but that what goes on in my head)!  I know there is the clip on style instead of the wristband, but it is also important for me to find out how much actual sleep I’m getting.  Do I need to start wearing pajamas just so I can attach the FitBit clip to something (that seems uncomfortable)?  Just like my previous pedometers, I would forget to attach the clip to my clothing everyday.  If this FitBit is going to happen, it’s going to have to be the wristband style.

I have friends with FitBit’s and they all seem to like them.  Most of them said it has been a great motivator to get in those extra steps daily.  Some have the wristband style and some have the clip on, each are very happy with the style they chose.  They like that you can check in with your friends who have a FitBit on the phone app and see how many steps everyone is doing weekly.  A motivator or added pressure?

Well, I did it!  I got myself a wristband style FitBit.  So far so good!  The first week I didn’t really change the way I was living and when I checked in every evening to see how many steps I had taken for the day I could not believe how little I was moving.  It has proven to me I really needed this device to get at least 10,000 steps in daily.

…And the sleep? Seems as the daily steps go up I’m sleeping with less restlessness. Win, Win!

And the wristband I was so concerned about, Tory Burch makes a cover for the FitBit to conceal it.

So I guess my answer would be…To Fitbit!

This is not a paid or sponsored post, just my view.

Synchronicity – I just ordered a FitBit Charge yesterday, and it should be here by Wednesday! Working from home makes it particularly challenging to get my daily steps in, so I decided I needed the extra motivation. Glad it’s working well for you, and hope it’ll do the same for me! 🙂

Laurel, It has really made me realize how I’m not even close to getting in my 10,000 steps, normally. Now, I take extra jogging steps when I’m doing my household chores and I’m getting in those 10,000 steps. Good Luck!

I prefer NOT to document exercise and what not. I used to wear a pedometer way back when and it drove me to unhealthy habits!! Luckily, I am a very routine girl when it comes to working out – thus I know I ALWAYS WILL, every single day!

Hi Mary, I Fitbit. My son Fitbits. I bought one for my husband and it’s still in the box:( But I LOVE mine. I also got the Tory Burch gold bracelet for it (rather heavy, but it psyches me into thinking I’m getting an arm workout, too.) BTW, you and I cross paths online quite a bit 😉

I love my Fitbit. It keeps me motivated to move, otherwise I convince myself I’ve walked a lot further and moved a lot more than I really do. I have the clip on and usually have it clipped out of sight. If it’s in sight and someone notices I use it as an opportunity to talk about fitness. I lost 85 lbs last year, and still have 25 pounds that love me too much to leave without a fight. I need all the motivation I can get.

I got mine at the end of May and I really like it! =) I’ve kind of been slacking recently and not making an effort to get more steps in, but once this rainy weather ends I’ll go outside more often!

Isn’t it amazing to see how much you don’t move lol?!! I was shocked at the beginning and kinda sad. I’ve increased my steps some but I’ll be honest I’ve really been slacking and need to get my butt moving again! I love the sleep part of it!

You and I are on the same wavelength! I had just purchased one and wanted to open the package, I was dragging my feet thinking it would take too long. I received your post and thought it was a sign! I started yesterday. So far so good. I forgot to wear it to bed. But today I have already walked 11,112 steps! I plan to go out and walk more! Trying to lose 5 pounds and it isn’t easy! I look forward to learning more about my sleep!

I’m glad I could help motivate you to get that package open! Sounds like you are off to a wonderful start with your steps. Just wait until you see your sleep habits, it’s amazing what the device can pick up. The Fitbit has proven to be a great motivator.

I have never tried the fitbit….but maybe it would be good for me. I make sure to get to the gym religiously…but the rest of my day is spent pretty much on my butt. I have used myfitnesspal to track calories for the last year or so and I could see that and fitbit really going well together.
