Do you ever just crave a tuna sandwich? I guess to do that you have to be someone who likes tuna. In my life, I have learned there are tuna sandwich lovers and tuna sandwich haters. Even in the tuna lover community, there are definite ways people like their tuna made.
When I was in grade school, I loved when my mom made me a tuna sandwich. I grew up in a italian household so most of the time my lunch consisted of eggplant or spaghetti or lentils, mostly what was left over from dinner the night before. But come fall, I got to be like every other kid and have a sandwich, not any sandwich, a tuna sandwich. My mom would only make me tuna sandwiches in the fall and winter because of the mayonnaise. It was hot where I lived and the thought of letting my lunch box sit on some shelf in a hot classroom was not the ideal. Still today, I love tuna sandwiches but, only tuna the way I make it, just like my mom. If you like tuna, you are going to love this sandwich.
Today, I am going to share her tuna recipe with you.
Ingredients:
1 can of albacore tuna ~ drained
1 heaping tablespoon of Del Monte sweet pickle relish ~ this brand is a must
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pinch of salt
2 tablespoon celery ~ finely minced
1 green onion ~ finely minced
3 tablespoon mayonnaise ~ Best Foods only please. 3 tablespoons is only a guide, use what make you happy
Italian style sub rolls ~ soft
1 tomato ~ sliced
romaine lettuce
In a medium size bowl place the first 8 ingredients, mix with a fork to combine breaking up large pieces of tuna. Place 1 piece of romaine lettuce in the fold of the bread. Place heaping spoonfuls of tuna on top of the lettuce. Place the tomato on top of the tuna. Grab some chips and your favorite beverage, and enjoy!
I love tuna! Your sandwich looks and sounds delicious. I will try it. Thanks for sharing.
