The decorations are down and the hustle and bustle of the holidays are over. It’s January! My favorite thing to do when it’s cold and dreary outside is cuddle up in my reading chair wearing sweats and fuzzy socks, along with a couple of great cookbooks to read and a hot cup of tea. All is calm when there is a cup of hot tea in my hand.
Did you know that January is National Hot Tea Month? Well, it is. Hot tea is my go to drink, day or night, during the winter months. Especially when I’m feeling like a cold is trying to catch up with me or when it’s cold outside, or when I’m feeling down. Hot tea always makes me feel so much better.
Today, I’m sharing my 3 favorite hot teas with you.
- When I’m not feeling so great, but I don’t have a cold (yet) this tea is a great immune booster. In a cup put an 1/8 teaspoon Tumeric, 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon unfiltered honey along with a green tea bag, the the tea bag steep for about 3 minutes and remove the tea bag. Top it off with very hot water and a splash of milk.
- If you do have a cold nothing soothes like a Hot Toddy. In a cup place one shot (1 ounce) of whiskey, 1 squeeze of fresh lemon juice, and a tablespoon of honey, along with a black tea bag. Top off with very hot water. If you would like you can also add some spices like: nutmeg, cinnamon, or cloves.
- And my morning tea. A tea bag of english breakfast tea, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and a splash of 1/2 and 1/2.
So, if you haven’t had a cup of hot tea this year, go ahead and get yourself one. What are you waiting for?
What is your favorite hot tea?
**Always be very careful when drinking very hot tea, you could get burned.
Until Next Time…
XOXO
I adore a hot toddy and am really more an infusion girl than pure tea. Normally, but not always. 😉
Yum, I love tea! I’m really into chai right now. Earl Grey is a classic favorite of mine too.
Chai is the next tea on my list to make at home. I enjoy Earl Grey, too.
Great post. My husband has really gotten into drinking Green Tea for the powerful antioxidants. He abandoned coffee and has never looked back. I need to get on the bandwagon! xo
I love tea in the winter months and coffee during the summer. I think your husband has the right idea with the benefits of tea antioxidants!
Ooh this sounds amazing I am a huge fan of tea! My favourite is a ginger and orange tea which is great with ginger biscuits!
Your tea and biscuits sound amazing!
I celebrate hot tea – and iced tea – month every single month! I like to try all flavors but usually end up with just plain old black tea!
I start every morning with a cup of green tea, then during the day change my tea with my mood.
Hot tea is perfect this time of year!
Natalie, there is something soothing about winter time and a hot cup of tea.
I love the originals – green, black, white – however, I also really like the Creamy Earl Gray brewed with 1/2 hot water and 1/2 hot milk. Yum!
OOH! You earl grey tea sounds delicious. I will be trying this tomorrow morning. Thank you for the suggestion.
Every day I vouch to substitute at least one cup of coffee with tea instead, but I always reach for my coffee. Maybe this will inspire me to finally make myself some tea!
Sheryl, try having your cup of tea first. I find it easier to go from tea to coffee rather than the other way around.
Now you’re talking! LOVE my tea. All kinds. Hot and cold. Oddly I like my hot tea with honey and my iced with no sweetener. But I’ll take it anyway I can sip it! Love your hot toddy recipe. Thanks!
I love Yogi teas – especially their Kava and their Throat Coat. I drink tea daily in the Winter months.
This detox tea is my fav! http://sweetteasweetie.com/detox-tea-new-year/
Thanks for sharing the detox tea, I can’t wait to give it a try.
I had no idea it was national hot tea month! How cool! It’s been my main drink of 2016 so far. I’m totally digging an orange zinger right now. My nostalgic go-to is chamomile. My mom use to make that for me all the time growing up.
Oh! That’s great to know. I adore tea and make sure to drink a cup or two every day. All tea is good tea!
I agree, Carolann. I enjoy a few cups of tea a day!
Since we’ve moved I have not had tumeric. I miss it! i Will definitely be making this tea today!
I try to incorporate Turmeric into as many things as I can. It is so healthy and most of the time no one knows it there.
i LOVE tea. Never had a hot toddy though. I love regular black tea, Earl Grey, so many.
Great article. I am a big hot tea drinker. I even carry an emergency tea bag in my purse, in case the restaurant doesn’t have any. Lol. My fav us Earl Grey, but basically I enjoy any black tea. I normally just take it with sugar and lemon only.
I love that you carry your own tea, that is a great idea! I’m going to start doing that.
