The other day, I met a friend for coffee, she suggested going to a little out of the way coffee house in the historic town of San Juan Capistrano, CA. Hidden House Coffee is located in the oldest neighborhood in California.
When I first walked up to the adorable little Hidden House Coffee, I noticed the marker just outside the front gate; the house has been there since 1890. Boy, if walls could talk. The history that surrounds San Juan Capistrano is extensive, not to mention this is the same town that on March 19th the swallows return home from Argentina. Just like in the famous song.
Upon walking through the gate, we were greeted by several tables on the porch where you can sit outside and watch the train go by (it is just across from the depot). It’s like sitting at a friends house.
Inside the café is very quaint. The barista’s are very friendly and make you feel at home as soon as you walk in. I noticed several coffee cups hanging across a beam and ask the barista who they belonged to, he said that they belong to the regulars who bring their own cups in to have their coffee, how wonderful, the coffee house washes and stores them. They even roast their own beans right there on the premises by their in house Roastmaster. If you like the smell of coffee, there is nothing like the sent that comes from the roasting of the beans.
I ordered a latte, which the barista topped off with a fancy design (I just love when coffee houses do that).
Hidden House is definitely a place I will visit again, and again.
